Death by Friends

by Thomas Camburn

Great Caesar, leader of all Rome
Great battles he did win.
Now he's in his eternalhome,
'Twas murdered by a friend.
Cassius, jealous of thy lord,
Killed him that fateful day.
But on that field a slave with sword,
Dids't take your life away.
Friend Caesar, noble Brutus slew,
To do all Romans good.
"Here lies the greatest man I knew,
In his own crimson blood."
Around me people die each day,
By those they call their friends.
Trying to care, but sent away
To cry as the day ends.
I have a friend, who once was killed,
I put him on the cross.
But through his death my life was filled,
I can not cound it loss.
He is not dead, he rose again,
One bright and early morn'.
He, with his blood, forgives my sin,
His brow pierced by a thorn.
This is my favorite poem of my brother's (also the only one I successfully got my hands on).
It also somewhat proves the sentence I created in mandarin class today.
nan hai zi bu jian de mei you nao.

Today

so... here I am.. four shots later and still alive. Then, to keep my arm from going completely numb, I went home and played the two new songs that I got. When people send me or I discover new songs, half the time I end up falling madly in love with the song.. for a while.. until the effects wear off. Well, I fell in love with this song.. so I went out and bought the sheet music.
^.^ So, my arm only aches a little bit and I'm going to go eat dinner. oh yeah.. one more thing. Here are my official classes for all you that want to know:
AP European History
English 2 Honors
Algebra 2 Honors
Mandarin H+
Geometry

God save the king!

Randomness...

..is a blessing from God to make life more interesting. ^-^

So.. You can change..
Paul -> Pauly
Jon -> Jonny (every time I try to spell that it's different.. how do you spell it?)
Stephen -> Stevey (ditto here..)
Harrison -> Harry
Addison -> Addy
But how do you change Isaac? o_O

*BOOM!*

It's amazing how quickly your entire view of life can change.
You think certain things are important, like being super smart and getting the most money.
Then in a flash, you realize, it really doesn't matter.
Sometimes, we get caught in this rat race of life where everything is about taking the hardest classes so you can get the most money.
Then God does something to pull you above the confusion for a little while and gives you a glimpse of the truth. In that moment it hits you. Everything you've been working for.. is pointless. It has no meaning! Thankfully, sometimes you begin to see what does matter.
Once you have been shown enough, God lets you back into the rat race to see what will happen. Will you get sucked back in? Or will you hold your own and do what's important?
To be completely honest, that has happened to me. I'm sorry to say, it happened a while ago, but I allowed myself to be sucked in. What will happen this year? It's hard to say.

I'm excited about school started... but I'm really.. upset about it at the same time. When I got back from vacation, I checked powerschool to find that all my classes had been changed.. except two. That night, my dad comes in to inform me that I had an assignment due, for a class I didn't even know that I had! Also, I have only 4 classes now. I am also skipping Geometry and going straight to Algebra 2. I, personally, don't mind skipping Geometry, but I don't think it's allowed. o_O

The point is, school is getting to be such a hassle. They just can't leave well enough alone. They're always changing things to make school "better and more student centered." Half the time, they only end up making life more miserable for both the teachers and the students.

14 days left <-- If you know what that's for, please don't tell anyone!

Biola

Bible Institute of Los Angeles
^where my brother is now^
We just left him there... *laughs* blessed quietness... too quiet actually.. oh well, soon I'll be too busy to notice.

So, I have discovered that, if I dress correctly, people will mistake me as the oldest sibling.
After we arrived at Biola campus, we took Tommy up to his dorm room. I met one of his siblings but turned to focus my attentions on my brother as my parents met the second. Later that afternoon, after my parents had left to explore the dorm building, Tom's other roommate turns to me and introduces himself. I tell him my name in return and he then asks.. "So, you're Tom's..." *awkward silence as I tried to remember who Tom was* "I'm his sister!"
"Older?"
"Younger"
"So, are you a senior?"
"uuh.. no"
"A junior?"
"No, a sophomore."
*puzzled look* "oh"
That was so funny. I could totally pass as college age *evil glint in eye*

Later that night, mom, dad, and I were in the elevator at the hotel and another Biola family gets on. They also think that I'm going to college. It was great. *dies laughing* No wonder everyone gives me that weird look when I tell them that I'm only 14. ;P

True Love

Addison Todd said...
"In reality, love is only a simple chemical reaction in your body."Love is not a simple chemical reaction. If it were, then there would be no confusion in finding it. It would be like a gamma-ray detector. Just hover it over different people until it reacts.Love is a choice. It is an action. Not simply a biologically induced state. Watch the movie, "A Vow To Cherish". Then tell me love is a simple chemical reaction."

Sorry, Addy. Your comment is just too good to pass up. ;P

I have not seen the movie, but I now know the basic story plot thanks to this site: http://www.christiananswers.net/spotlight/movies/2002/avowtocherish.html
In it is a prime example of two types of love. Love is a word that can have many different meanings depending on how it's used. Now, in the movie, the love John had for his wife would be classified as True Love, while the supposed "love" he felt for the jogger really was a chemical reaction! Do you understand what I'm saying now?

Perhaps this will help even more:
http://www.sjchurchofchrist.org/agape.shtml
The chemical reaction I speak of could be classified as Eros love. True love is agape. Most people in the world have only Eros love, they seek temporary pleasure and enjoyment, prefering to ignore the lasting consequences. True love is much rarer, and perhaps that's why so many Christian women these days are prefering to stay single. Agape love is true love!

When I was on vacation.. I watched the last half of a movie called All About Eve. One of the characters had some really great lines. I got two of them. I found the characters name quite amusing...
"I am Addison DeWitt. I am nobody's fool, especially not yours."

"That I should want you at all strikes me as the height of improbability, but that's probably why I do."

The Answer...

"Do you believe in love at first sight?
It's an illusion..." ~Song: Get Together

I have been asked over and over agian why I like to write about love so much. Hopefully, in this post I will answer it once and for all. The simple answer is: love fascinates me. But I know that most of you won't be satisfied with so little so here's more. ;P

As I have said before, Love is a powerful thing. It consumes body and mind! It controls the thoughts and emotions of its victim! It's unstoppable! Uncontrollable! ... or is it?
In reality, love is only a simple chemical reaction in your body. That's it! So why is something so simple so hard to control?

When you are surrounded by something, it is very hard to ignore it. I am surrounded by "love." "Love" is everywhere in the media. The media then affects our lives and "love" pops up everywhere!

I have always been fascinated with the human mind. The way it works, how it affects the body, etc. If love is only a chemical reaction, why is it so hard to control? Why are so many people consumed by it?
I have been blessed with a relatively level head. I have not been "consumed" by love. In fact, I have been able to study it. Yes, it is very true. Love is powerful! The question is, will we let it control us? or can we learn to harness the power and use it?

Over the years, people have lost the true meaning of love. What they feel is not true love, but love distorted- infatuation. They feel their human instincts and desires and lose all power of thought. True love is hard to find nowadays, and sometimes it's even harder to give.

Yes, this post is long, b ut it carries a lot of feeling with it, too. I hope I've answered all your questions ;) but it doesn't hurt to ask more. I certainly have a lot more could say, but for now I'll keep it short. I have asked a lot of questions which I plan on addressing more later. I'm going to fight for true love!

School

Yay! School in exactly a week! I can't wait!!!! *spins around in circles*

Batman Begins

Last night, my brother had some of his friends over... and they brought a movie. Normally, when movie time comes around, they kick me out. However, since I am almost 15, I guess my brother decided that I am finally old enough to watch superhero movies. So, I asked what movie it was.. and all they said was "Batman!" Close to the beginning, I get a call from Esther who is trying to use up her phone battery. We talked about the fact that I have never before seen a superhero movie and she asked me which one it was. I said that it was Batman, regular batman. We also talk about why I shouldn't start with Batman Begins because it's such a dark story. I assure her that it's only regular Batman and after a while we hang up. I walked into the living room, sat down, looked at the movie case and read "Batman Begins."

Yuck...

I have started two posts.. written 3 long paragraphs for each post.. then changed my mind and deleted them.. Now I'm actually going to finish one.. even if you don't like what it says =S

I, personally, do not like big churches. I like small churches where you know everyone and everyone knows you. When you are in a small church, a lot of things are possible that you could never do in a big church.

I would like to commend all those who attend Grace Bible Church in St. Louis, MO for doing a great job at portraying Jesus through their lives. Nobody's perfect, but you guys certainly do your best to show God's love. There are many stories I could tell as examples. Sadly, most of them must remain untold for reasons I cannot disclose at the moment. All I can say is that I truly see God's love shining through you all.

Many people like to wear necklaces and bracelets that have a certain four letters... WWJD. As most of you know, that stands for what would Jesus do. I can honestly say that I believe that Jesus would do many of the things that I have seen happen at GBC. Even though I was only there for a very short time I found myself truly blessed. It would be wonderful if I could share to all who read this all the thoughts in my heart and mind. Sadly, it cannot be and I can only do my best through simple words. Very rarely does a message mean so much to me personally, I'm so used to hearing the simple things.. instead of things that speak to my very soul and seem to beg for a change!

I think I shall stop now before I say much more. Pretty much, I commend you GBC for your hard work at reaching people for Christ. You have awoken in me a passion such as I have never felt before. I have much more to say about this.. but that will have to wait for another day. ;)

"Breakaway"

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed
I could break away

[Chorus:]
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away
(I will)And breakaway

[Chorus]

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway

It's amazing how true to life some songs can be. Songs contain so much meaning.. so much feeling.. so much life.

Girl= evil?

girls= time + money
time= money squared
money is the root of all evil
therefore... girls=evil right?

Too bad. Evil is negative and you can never square something and get a negative number. Therefore, girls do not = evil.

Anyways, if girls=evil then guys seek after evil, long for evil, desire evil, fight over evil, etc etc.

A Whole New World...?

I look into another world
endless longing filling my thoughts.
If only I could break free of my bonds
and fly away to this place of happiness!
Alas, it is not to be
for how can one such as me
feel the contentment of belonging
the joy of attentions
the warmth of true love
the safety of peace.
It can never be...
but still I long.. still I hope.. still I dream.

The power of love

Yes, I realize that I write about love quite frequently, but it is a subject that I find very important to me.

We went to see the play H.M.S. Pinafore... near the end, the captain goes on a rampage with his "nine tails"and a man is thrown into the dungeon of a ship all because he loves the captain's daughter. It struck me how amazing and complicated love is. It thrives in complete manipulation. Love can cause the lowest man to be exalted and the highest man to be torn down from his high post. It can cause life... or death. It can cause eternal suffering, or eternal gladness. When one can manipulate people using this powerful feeling, it can truly become the most powerful weapon ever discovered. Beware of this powerful feeling! Rule it, do not let it rule you.
